Garlic for Health

Garlic for health improvement has been known for centuries and primarily used in cooking. However many of us only associate it as a food flavoring. Personally I love using fresh garlic in most all dishes I prepare.  Although it is best grown in damp areas, I often planted garlic in my garden to help improve the soil and eliminate bugs too. 

Garlic for Health

First, the downside of garlic you should know:

There are those who dislike the strong odor associated with it, despite such great health benefits it provides.  (I discovered a few years back to be beneficial with a 'liver disorder' ... more on that below.)

According to Wikipedia, garlic is closely related to the onion family, and would be the main reason behind its strong smell.  (Incase you were wondering, the general consensus it that it is an herb.)

My husband, and many others, chose a less potent form, in the hopes of avoiding the well known smell of garlic breath.  But this powder form also means it offers much less in the way of health benefits too. 

TIP - Here's a great way to benefit from using garlic, without needing to cook with it, use this organic capsule form daily instead!

There is another downside I should point out as well and that is some people are highly allergic, some can develop a rash just from handling it.  

Crow Poison is a harmful, odourless, and a false garlic which looks similar to the regular variety but is highly poisonous.

Using garlic for health building and disease prevention

This plant has been used for centuries by chefs of course, but also by various doctors for treating a multitude of illnesses for its healing abilities.

It contains many minerals and is rich in vitamin A, B1 and C. In wild form, it is stronger than today's cultivated varieties, therefore would have more medicinal value.  Garlic contains anti-oxidants that support the body’s protective mechanism against oxidative damage.


  • Acne
  • Asthma
  • Bronchitis
  • Candida
  • Colic
  • Cholesterol
  • Diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Gas
  • Sore throat
  • Parasites
  • Breathing
  • Gout
  • Stomachaches
  • A good liver herb (see below).

In addition, it is highly recognized and used worldwide as an antibiotic, antiseptic, blood purification, blood sugar, blood thinner, seasoning, vitamin, tea, syrup and tincture.  

The fact that garlic can help fight infectious disease is also a major factor to consider, as these can result in death, especially amongst the elderly or people with a weak immune system.

Soldiers often used garlic for health by treating wounds in earlier days and to fight infection or to gain needed strength.

Laboratory tests have shown good results when used as an antiseptic and antibiotic.  In more ancient times, it was used for similar conditions. Today, it is used both internally and externally by millions of people daily.

I discovered years back that garlic is one of natures natural antibiotics.  It helps with most any liver disorder by activating enzymes that assist in flushing out toxins, this cleansing process is mainly due to the high amounts of selenium and allicin.
