The Raw Food Diet
Your Dog Will Love

Although there is much debate about raw food diet for dogs, I personally believe in it and have used this recipe for years! Safely, effectively and without any history of illness with my dogs for over 20 years now. (If your dog has any known food allergies then obviously do not include them in your recipe - not sure, do a quick Simple Health Test.)

Raw Food Diet

Caution should be strictly used when handling raw meat; this is where safety comes into play on your end!

Financially, depending on the size of your dog, it is actually cheaper than commercial dog food in the long run. Never mind the more obvious health benefits that you can't put a price tag on with a raw food diet.

All ingredients must be fresh, organic where possible, washed thoroughly and peeled as needed. I find there are many local organic farmers or stores for the meat content.

(Where I live, butchers set aside a meat and bone mixture to use for dog food. The organic meat and bone are ground into 5lb packages in this case for easy use.)

Raw Food Recipe for your dog:

  • 1 head each cauliflower and broccoli
  • 1 medium size rutabaga (turnip) peeled
  • 1 - 2 lb. bag parsnips peeled
  • 1 - 2 lb. bag carrots peeled
  • 1 - 5lb. bag apples peeled and cored
  • 1 pint fresh blueberries (or 1 bag frozen)
  • one bunch spinach
  • 2 cups frozen or fresh peas
  • 6 large tins each salmon (with bones) and plain sardines
  • 6 hard boiled eggs peeled
  • 1 - 500g package long grain wild rice blend cooked
  • 1 small package each raw beef liver and chicken liver washed
  • 1/4 cup wheat germ (health food store)
  • 1/4 cup sea kelp (health food store)
  • 1/2 cup brewers yeast (health food store)
  • 20 sesame seed oil capsules, broken and squeezed into mixture
  • 5 large yams peeled
  • 5 lbs. each ground raw lamb and ground raw turkey (meat with bones)

I use my Vitamix machine to quickly shred all the above listed ingredients, to resemble a coleslaw type mixture - accept for the last ingredient listed (the 5 lbs of organic meat/bone mixture.)

Then simply stir all together, using a large stock pot, stainless sink, cooler, whatever works that is large enough to mix thoroughly.

** The meat/bone mixture can only be added to the mixture IF it is not already frozen.  Here, I have to purchase this frozen, the butcher will cut the 5 lbs into 12 or 16 cubes for me.  Everyday I will thaw one cube for use.

I freeze about 1 cup portions of this Raw Food Diet Recipe into 30 small freezer bags or so. Removing the air from the bags before freezing to maintain freshness longer.

Larger or smaller portions depending upon the size of your dog can be adjusted to your dogs personal needs. Every day I will remove one bag from the freezer to thaw for the next days meal time.

I purchase organic, raw chicken necks and backs as a tasty treat once a week for my dogs. They love it. And no, this has NEVER made them sick, aggressive or any other such myth you may have heard about. Not in my personal experience - ever!

In addition, there are many companies today that offer raw or better quality food, even delivery service if you feel you haven't got the time to do this yourself.  Here's a company I would highly recommend trying!  Not only for natural products BUT if you prefer to purchase your raw food and treats instead, they have lots to choose from here.

Yes, your dog will be more enthusiastic about eating of course, wouldn't you be? And as with any 'new' food, introduce it slowly, in very small amounts at first. Sudden changes in diet can cause stomach upsets, even with commercial brands. So, switching to a raw food diet for your dog SHOULD ALWAYS be introduced slowly.

ALWAYS handle raw meat with care and ensure it is from a reliable source. Be creative; your dog may prefer other types of fruits and vegetables. I use other healthy choices too as tasty little in between treats such as watermelon and other types of fish too.

Dogs, like us, have their own preferred taste for certain foods.  Variety is the spice of live. Of course NEVER feed your dog chocolate, this is poisonous. Never use table scraps containing onions, spices, sauces and additives either.

Please feel free to change up this raw food diet recipe based on your dogs individual needs and preference.  Consider using fruits and vegetables that are in season!
